Ebbw Vale Former Steelworks: Phase 1 Landscape Works Contracts
Scope of Works

The Phase 1 Landscape Works Contract will comprise:

1.      Supply and planting of approximately 2.9 hectares of woodland trees and shrubs and 0.1 hectare of pond and wetland plants;

2.      Construction and planting of 1.8 km of earth and stone-faced hedgebanks, and the supply and construction of dry stone walling;

3.      Supply and construction of timber post and rail fencing, timber waymarkers, bins, signs and seats, steel motorcycle and vehicle barriers;

4.      Supply and lay Breedon type gravel surfacing to 11,630m2 of footpath/cycleway (sub-base and timber edging pre-installed by others);

5.      Supply and construct three timber footbridges of 8m span, including concrete foundation construction within lined swale construction;

6.      Supply and construction of 50m long flight of timber steps, 15m total height between top and bottom.

7.      Supply and construct ten ‘soft’ wetland weir structures within lined swale construction.

8.      Final, ex-situ blending (addition and incorporation of TDSS) of 4500m3 manufactured soil and placement on site.

9.      Excavation of 2330 m3 spoil in planting areas and disposal on site.

10.   Herbicide treatment of c.800 m2 of Japanese Knotweed on site.

11.   Reptile mitigation works prior to excavation/planting works.

12.   Supply and installation of pre-planted coir pallets and rolls.

13.   Supply and seeding of c. 0.5 hectares species-rich grassland.

The three year Phase 1 Landscape Maintenance Contract will comprise:

1.      Maintenance of the aforementioned landscape works plus maintenance of approximately 8.4 hectares of species-rich grassland.

2.      On-going herbicide treatment of Japanese Knotweed on site

It is anticipated the landscape works contract will commence in autumn 2008 and be completed by spring 2009, following which the landscape maintenance contract will commence.
